Using Fusion 360 and the CNC Router to Create a Personalized Wooden Sign

In this 4 part class, individuals will learn all skills necessary to go from a concept to a finished part using the OpenBuilds CNC Router in the Makerspace.

  • 7/2: The first class will be centered around learning the basic functions within Fusion 360, then creating a virtual model of a decorative type sign, something along the lines of an address sign, or family name, door hanger, etc.
  • 7/9: The second class will dive into creating the necessary G-Code (Machine Language) for the router to carve out individuals designs. As part of the second class, we will also discuss the basics of CNC routing, and explore the particular machine we currently have at Roswell Firelabs. We will demonstrate and practice setting up the machine for carves, and explore the software we use to send the G-Code to the machine controller.
  • 7/16: The third class will be mostly centered around individuals operating the machine and cutting out their signs. Once the signs are carved, participants will have the option to finish their signs with stains, paints, or varnishes.
  • 7/23: The last scheduled class meeting might only be necessary for individuals still working to complete their sign.
