02:00PM - 04:00PM:  Getting Started in the Metal Shop

This orientation introduces some of the policies, equipment, and safety procedures in the Roswell Firelabs metal shop. This class will NOT teach you how to weld, however, students will be shown how to safely use a few of the common tools used in the metal shop and will get a chance to make a few MIG welds. Taking Metal Shop Orientation will not authorize you to use the welder, the handheld plasma cutter, the CNC plasma cutter, or the drill press by yourself, but we will cover the procedures for how to get authorized.

Be advised: Students must bring safety glasses, work gloves, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves. Cotton and leather clothing only (no polyester). If ALL attendees are not dressed appropriately the class will be rescheduled.

Unless rescheduled, Metal Shop Orientation is the first Sunday of the Month.

Orientation is led by Paul Teal, who put together a small metal shop to make balloon frames for his balloon art business. He is now selling balloon frames to other balloon artists at www.EventWelding.com.
