06:00PM - 08:00PM: Build Your Own Smart Weather Station (Part 1 of 2)

This class is all about getting hands on with electronics and technology! It is targeted for all audiences -- Even if you've never heard of arduino or Internet of Things, this class still has something for you. Every student will take home there very own Smart Weather Station Kit. What is a smart weather station? It's basically a small thermometer and humidity sensor, that can be connected to the internet, and customized to do interesting things with the data it collects.

Want to send text messages to your phone if your house gets too cold when you are away? Maybe you'd like to track which rooms get warmer or cooler than others? Or maybe just turn on a light bulb when the temperature is just right. This is only the beginning of what is possible!

Students will learn the basics of what a micro-controller is, how to program them, and how to interface with different types of hardware and sensors!

Each student will take home a small "breadboard" style circuit with a ESP8266 WiFi micro-controller, DHT22 temperature humidity sensor, SSD1306 OLED display screen.

Optional Items: Laptop with at least 1 USB 2.0 port and WiFi connectivity w/ charger ( most helpful for part 2 )

Ages 10+
